Hotels Lake District - Great Bed and Breakfasts!

The Cranleigh - Bowness

At first sight, this appears to be a regular guesthouse, a minute’s walk from the stunning village of Bowness on Windermere. But proprietors Louise and Stephen have created a hotel of the Lake District which blends a traditional friendly, informal atmosphere with accommodation worthy of a boutique hotel. The guest lounge, with its open fireplace and magnificent furnishings is in classic style, is as the elegant dining room. Bedrooms have been crafted by a professional interior designer, and each has its own individual style.

Beaumont House is the place for stylish, modern boutique bed and breakfast accommodation. You will find it within an easy walk of the picturesque village of Windermere. The property is a fine example of Victorian Architecture at its very best and has been tastefully refurbished and provides all the modern comforts to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay. I particularly liked the spacious lounge and the airy breakfast room. Beaumont House has ten elegant double bedrooms and you can ask for a room with a king size mahogany bed and an ensuite whirlpool bath. Also particular attention is paid to disabled guests or those recovering from illness, although guests with hearty appetites are not stinted in the breakfast room. The house is particularly convenient for the pubs and restaurants in Windermere, where a wide variety of menus are available.

New House Farm - Lorton Vale

If you are looking for a bed and breakfast establishment, but still want the luxury, then New House Farm is the place for you. You will find it in the beautiful Lorton Vale in the North West corner of the Lake District National Park. The original property was built in 1650 and contains many of the original features such as oak beams and rafters, stone flagged floors and stone open fireplaces. This charming building is set in 15 acres of open fields, woodlands and rivulets, with spectacular Lakeland views. You can expect warm hospitality and excellent food, sourced from local produce. A particular feature of the house is the relaxing hot tub in the garden, best enjoyed with a glass or two of champagne.

The Boundary in Bowness is just the place for stylish, modern-day boutique bed and breakfast accommodation. You will find it within an easy walk of the village of Bowness. The property has been completely refurbished with spacious, individually designed bedrooms with king-sized beds a graceful dining room and a cosy lounge. The rooms are named for famous cricketers. I stayed in the Fry room, named after C.B. Fry, who, as every schoolboy knows, captained England in six test matches and reputedly declined the throne of Albania. The room certainly does the great man justice, with a hand-carved mahogany bed and a Venetian glass dressing table. The house is particularly convenient for the pubs and restaurants in Bowness. Proprietors, Helen and Steve, offer breakfasts with the best quality locally sourced free-range ingredients, including gluten-free Cumberland sausage, and a wide range of menu options.

Sawrey House - near Sawrey, Hawkshead

Sawrey House is a classic country house hotel in the heart of the Lake District, in the village of Near Sawrey. As one of the top Lake District hotels, it combines perfectly appointed bedrooms with a relaxed atmosphere. Set in 3 acres of grounds within easy walking distance of Hawkshead, Sawrey House offers a wide range of family rooms and suites. Sawrey House is an elegant Victorian house built in of local stone in period style and retaining many original features, but has recently undergone a complete renovation to provide modern comforts with traditional elegance. In the restaurant, dining is treated as an experience to be treasured to the full. Phil, the resident chef, has a varied menu with dishes prepared and served to the highest of standards with flair and imagination.

Windermere Suites - Windermere

If you want luxury without the fuss and you need privacy for a romantic adventure, Windermere Suites is the place for you. There are eight individual suites to choose from, each one in its unique style, with contemporary designer furniture and bathrooms of distinction. All this is delivered without the pretention that you find in some stuffy hotels. You can enjoy a hearty Cumbria platter or Continental breakfast served in the relaxing comfort of your own suite and in the evening, there are many excellent restaurants a few minutes walk away.

It's worth remembering many bed-and-breakfasts in the Lake District have been refurbished to match the standards of high-class boutique hotels: these can offer a luxurious and yet intimate experience which rivals the comfort and informal friendliness of the most luxurious hotels the Lakes has to offer.

By the way, we highly recommend using the services of Laterooms.com once you've decided where you wish to stay, since this can save you considerable money on the full price of the hotel. Admittedly, if you're booking well in advance then Laterooms.com may not be the best option (hotels post their best deals at fairly short notice to fill rooms for which they do not have bookings), but for a last-minute break, or a last-minute booking, they provide excellent customer service and have the widest range of hotels in the Lake District in any single location.
